Unusual Two-Gallon Pittsburgh, PA Stoneware Advertising Jar with Stenciled Cobalt Pinwheel Decoration, Greensboro, PA origin, circa 1875, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and flattened rim, featuring the stenciled cobalt advertising, "FROM / J. WELSH & BRO / 948 Penn St / PITTSBURGH / Pa." Shoulder decorated with a lesser-seen stenciled band of pinwheels. Stenciled "2" at base. A thin 3 3/4" crack from rim to left side of jar. Interior of rim with a small chip and light wear. A small chip to base of rim on reverse. A small in-the-firing ping to reverse. Light surface wear to jar.
