Rare Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar, Stenciled "ORCHARD PRESERVING / CO. / PITTSBURGH. PA.," Greensboro, PA origin, circa 1880, wide, tapered jar with flattened shoulder molding, featuring the stenciled cobalt advertising, "ORCHARD PRESERVING / CO, / PITTSBURGH, PA.," including stenciled flourishes. Shoulder molding with four pairs of original piercings to allow a lid to be secured with wire. Rare form and subject matter. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with some residue to interior and typical, very minor edge wear. H 6" ; Diam. (across rim) 5 3/8".
