Fine Three-Gallon Iron-Decorated Stoneware Jug, Stamped "CHARLESTOWN / GGG," Frederick Carpenter, Charlestown, MA, circa 1812, highly-ovoid jug with heavily-tooled spout and dipped iron-oxide decoration to the top and bottom, the shoulder impressed, "CHARLESTOWN / GGG," the three G's presumably denoting three gallons. Impressive form and rare use of a "G" stamp for capacity. Front shoulder with a tiny hole fitted with an old wooden plug. Two base chips. Some typical firing flaws to surface, including a small ping to right shoulder of jug with a tight 2" line extending through it. A 1" chip to side of spout.
