Fine One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stamped "PAUL : CUSHMAN," Albany, NY origin, circa 1810, narrow-bodied, ovoid jar with flared collar and applied lug handles, decorated on the front with a highly-stylized, three-petaled floral motif, and on the reverse with an X. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Coggled across the midsection with a large Paul Cushman maker's mark. A good example of Cushman's cobalt-decorated ware, featuring an appealing, slender form. Provenance: From a forty-year private collection. Excellent condition with four small rim chips and some small, typical in-the-firing contact marks to surface. H 11".
