Exceedingly Rare Five-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Incised Baudy Decoration of a Man, Stamped "E L FARRAR / IBERVILLE / P Q," Canadian origin, mid 19th century, large-sized, cylindrical jug with tooled spout, decorated with an incised and cobalt-highlighted design of a standing man atop a stylized ground, his back turned to a brushed cobalt bush, apparently in the act of defecating. This highly unusual, outrageous decoration is rendered all the more rare by its presence on an example of Canadian stoneware, a country from which few figural designs of this quality can be found. Even further, the technique of incising was almost never employed in Canada, highlighting the importance of this jug. A crack to underside, which forms a long T at base of jug on left side/reverse. An in-the-firing salt drip to left of figure. H 19".
