One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Batter Pail, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1865, ovoid form with tubular pouring spout, handle at base on reverse, and applied clay ears with wood-and-wire bail handle. Decorated on the reverse with a brushed tulip and on the front with an unusual, "double wreath" motif flanking the spout. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, handle terminals, and applied ears. Includes tin covers. Very nice condition with a small chip and 5/8" line to handle at base on reverse, some staining, and a few small spots of fry to cobalt. Tin covers in good condition with some separation along edge of larger cover.
