Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Stenciled Cobalt Shield Decoration, Stenciled "T.D. HARDEN / PALATINE. W. VA," circa 1875, ovoid pitcher with tall collar and flared rim, decorated with a stenciled Federal shield motif surrounded by T.D. Harden maker's stenciling. A rare form for this region, featuring Harden's desirable shield motif. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with a minor, in-the-firing separation at base of handle and smooth, in-the-firing contact mark to reverse.
