Fine Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Decoration, Stenciled "BOYERS & HARDEN / PALATINE / W.VA," circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated at the shoulder with a freehand design of a central flower bud flanked by numerous vertical dashes, girded between straight and wavy freehand stripes. Midsection with Boyers & Harden maker's stenciling, including stenciled foliate motifs. Base with freehand "3" flanked by dashes, underscored by a freehand stripe. Large cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Significant network of sealed cracks to underside and base of jar, which extends toward midsection of left side of jar.
