Very Rare Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Harvest Jug, Stenciled "T.D. HARDEN. / PALATINE. W. VA.," circa 1875, beehive form with arched handle and a wheel-thrown spout applied to the shoulder on the front and reverse. Incised ring to top of jug. Front decorated with an elaborate stenciled rose motif surrounded by T.D. Harden maker's stenciling. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals and surrounding the bases of both spouts. An exceptional form, often found with condition issues. One of a few harvest jugs from Palatine, WV known. In-the-firing contact marks to surface. A thin, sealed 1" crack on underside, continuing 6" up side of jug. Most of the stenciled abbreviation "W. VA." is missing. H ( to top of handle) 12".
