Rare Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stamped "M * PORTER / ROCHESTER," Micah Porter, Rochester, NY, circa 1820-1830, stylishly-potted, ovoid jar with applied lug handles, decorated with stylized brushwork below the cobalt-highlighted maker's mark, "M * PORTER / ROCHESTER." Relatively few pieces have survived bearing this maker's mark from one of Rochester's earliest stoneware manufactories. Two poorly-restored rim chips, one of which is on the front of the jar and includes a thin 6" crack descending from it. Additional small rim chips. Some surface wear and minor base nicks.
