Two-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jug, Stamped "J.P. BODIE, / MAKER," Kirksey's Crossroads, Edgefield District, South Carolina origin, circa 1870, ovoid jug with tapered spout and thin, applied strap handle, the surface covered in a runny, alkaline glaze. Impressed at the shoulder with the mark of Jesse P. Bodie, used at his shop at Kirksey's Crossroad, Edgefield County, South Carolina. Large in-the-firing spider crack to underside that extends 4 1/2" up reverse as well as onto base on front. A tight 3 1/4" line to shoulder. H 13 1/4".
