Scarce Seven-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. WEAVER," Beaver, PA origin, circa 1865, large-sized, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with three triple-floral motifs descending from cobalt banding, applied over a slip-coated surface. Brushed cobalt highlight to maker's mark and handle terminals. Exceptional size. Significant restoration to surface, including right side of jar, reverse, and front of jar below decoration. Restoration does not affect decoration. Varnish to surface. H 18".
