Rare Seven-Gallon Stoneware Presentation Cooler with Incised and Impressed Decoration, Inscribed "AS" and Dated Twice "1866," probably OH, 1866, large-sized, ovoid form with narrow mouth, octagonal bunghole, and applied open handles, coated in a dark-gray slip and decorated on the front with an incised heart-shaped vine within an urn, surrounding an impressed "7." Further incised below with the date, "1866," flanked by impressed cross-in-circle motifs. Several cross-and-circle motifs are impressed below to form a large cross. Reverse decorated with an incised flower, the large incised initials, "A . S," and the date, "1866," all brushed over in cobalt slip. Additional cobalt highlights to bunghole and handle terminals. Right handle professionally restored. A thin, shallow 2 1/2" flake to bottom edge, probably in-the-firing. A minor nick to bunghole. H 19".
