One-and-a-Half-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Cake Crock with Lid, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1880, cylindrical form with squared rim and applied lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with three large brushed clovers. Original lid decorated with four brushed floral motifs and a cobalt band around the base of the knob. Hand-incised "1 1/2" on underside of lid. Crock with a crack across underside, extending to shoulder on one side, a 7/8" chipped area to one handle, and rim chips. Lid with a small chip and a few tiny nicks to knob, a short, faint surface line to top, and a some shallow chips and wear to underside.
