Rare Shenandoah Valley Slip-Decorated Redware Vase, attributed to J. Eberly & Co., Strasburg, VA, circa 1890, ovoid vase with finely-turned foot and flared rim, decorated three times with a large curving swag motif in cream-colored slip over a light slip coating, all applied under a clear lead glaze. Scarce form with appealing decoration in the Strasburg style, featuring a glaze treatment distinctive to the Eberlys. Old, crude restoration to underside, extending onto a large section of vase's foot. A crudely-filled 3/4" hole to side of vase. A thin 2 3/4" to base. Wear and a 1/2" chip to rim. Some spots of wear to body of vase. H 10 1/4".
