Rare Shenandoah Valley Glazed Redware Vase with Applied Bird and Floral Decoration, attributed to J. Eberly & Co., Strasburg, VA, circa 1890, ovoid vase with tall collar, the front decorated with an applied design of a bird perched on a flowering plant, the surface decorated with cream-colored slip and splashed copper-oxide under a clear lead glaze. Impressed circular details to flowers. Exceptional form. Restored bird's head. Large reglued section on reverse, with restoration along crack line. Additional restoration to rim. A restored 5/8" surface flake to right of applied decoration. Band of wear to interior of collar. A shallow 1 3/4" in-the-firing flake to underside. Additional small spots of wear. H 7 1/2".
