Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "WHITES.UTICA.," NY State origin, circa 1865, cylindrical jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested bird with fan-shaped tail, perched on a stylized on branch. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Some oversalting to decoration, a piece of adhered clay to top of handle, a horizontal in-the-firing surface crack to handle, and a horizontal in-the-firing line to base of handle.
