Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Freehand Cobalt Decoration, Greensboro, PA origin, circa 1865, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and incised banding to midsection, decorated top-to-bottom with a brushed tulip vine design between freehand stripes and a scrolled number "2" flanked by numerous graduated horizontal and vertical stripes. Exceptional decoration. Significant restoration to right side of jar's front. A tightly-sealed Y-shaped crack to base area of left side of jar's front, extending onto underside, where it forms a second tight Y.
