Fine Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar with Kaolin Slip Decoration, attributed to Thomas Chandler, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1850, cylindrical jar with tapered shoulder and thin, semi-squared rim, decorated with a draped, looping line design in slip-trailed kaolin, set against a gray-green, alkaline-glazed ground. Exceptional condition and appealing, runny glaze. Provenance: Recently-surfaced in Maryland. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with some in-the-firing surface fissures to underside. H 10 3/4".
