Three Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Face Vessels, Burlon Craig, Vale, NC, early fourth quarter 20th century, a two-handled jug with sine-wave decoration at shoulder, a smaller jug with tooled shoulder, and a small pitcher, all with applied clay faces, china teeth, and olive-colored alkaline glazes. Largest face jug impressed with unusual, early-period "B B C" maker's mark on underside. Two smaller face vessels impressed with "B.B. CRAIG / VALE, NC" maker's marks on underside. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market grouping, purchased by the consignor years ago. All in essentially as-made condition, the pitcher with some in-the-firing flaws to base area. H (of tallest) 12 1/2".
