Outstanding Two-Gallon Stoneware Water Cooler with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1840, cylindrical cooler with squared rim, applied lug handles, and circular bunghole, decorated on the front with two large sweeping vines bearing flowers and clustered grape-like designs. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals and surrounding bunghole. Reverse decorated at the shoulder with a horizontal vine bearing flowers and graduated leaves. Hairlines to surface. A few large base flakes and lesser base chips. An in-the-firing contact mark to shoulder area. A 5/8" area of wear to interior edge of bunghole. H 14".
