Rare Small-Sized Stoneware Jug with Impressed Decoration, Stamped "S.AMBOY.N.JERSY", Thomas Warne and Joshua Letts, South Amboy, NJ, early 19th century, highly-ovoid jug with footed base and heavily-tooled spout, decorated with an impressed drape design, highlighted in amber-brown slip. Additional amber-brown slip highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. Desirable size and maker. Provenance: A fresh-t0-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. In-the-firing flaws to surface, including a large contact mark to front, a 3/4" piece of adhered clay to side of jug, two lines to underside of handle, and a 2" vertical line at base on reverse, continuing approximately 1 1/8" onto underside. Two base chips. H 9 1/4".
