Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stenciled "FOELL & ALT, / EAST BIRMINGHAM, PA.," circa 1860, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, flattened rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed flowering vine above Foell & Alt maker's stenciling. Freehand stripe decoration throughout. Base with stenciled "3" flanked by dashes. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Some light wear to surface on left side of jar, reverse of jar, rim on reverse, and handles. Right handle with a short line. Interior of rim with a small chip and a short surface line. An in-the-firing separation on underside, not visible on interior. Some light water glass staining to front and reverse.
