Twelve-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stenciled "EXCELSIOR POTTERY. / A.P. DONAGHHO / Parkersburg, W.Va.," circa 1880, large-sized, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated with the stenciled maker's mark, "EXCELSIOR POTTERY. / A.P. DONAGHHO / Parkersburg, W. Va.", accented with a stenciled rising sun motif and geometric banding. Bold-faced stenciled "12" below, flanked by stenciled flourishes. Some light, scattered exfoliation to reverse and left and right sides of jar. A long sealed diagonal crack emanating from base on side right side of jar. H 20 1/4".
