Exceptional Three-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Running Dog Decoration, Stamped "NEW YORK STONEWARE CO. / FORT EDWARD, NY," circa 1875, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a dog with elongated snout and upswept tail, running atop of a stylized ground. Light cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. An unusual style of dog design, rare in New York State stoneware decoration and possibly representing a dachshund or other small breed. Some minor flakes to surface. A faint, 3" vertical surface line to front, not visible on interior. Chips to edge of left handle. Some minor flakes to right handle. Some staining. Two minor in-the-firing iron pings to front. Some light exfoliation to underside.
