Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Flower Basket Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON, VT", circa 1855, ovoid pitcher with tooled midsection, tall collar, and elaborate rim molding, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a floral spray accented with spots, emanating from an open-handled basket. Stylized ground below. Light cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Unusual form featuring a desirable Norton motif. A tight, fork-shaped hairline across underside, including a line extending off from it and 4" up right side of pitcher. Otherwise excellent condition. H 11 7/8".
