Six-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stenciled "RICHEY & HAMILTON / PALATINE / W. VA.", circa 1875, large-sized, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with Richey & Hamilton maker's stenciling surrounding a scrolled, stenciled design. Stenciled tulips flank the maker's stenciling and a stenciled "6 with flourishes appears above. Shoulder decorated with a freehand vine motif. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A 2 1/2" restored section to left handle. Two minor, in-the-firing chips to underside at edge. Heavy staining. Some minor, in-the-firing chipping to rim on reverse, which is glazed over. H 16 1/4".
