Four-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Churn, Stenciled "JAS. HAMILTON & / CO. / GREENSBORO. PA", circa 1875, cylindrical churn with flared collar and applied lug handles, decorated with elaborate stenciled rose motifs above James Hamilton maker's stenciling. Freehand cobalt stripes to shoulder and base. Base with stenciled "4" flanked by stenciled roses. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A tight 10" crack from rim on left side of churn. A tight 2 1/2" line from rim on reverse. A thin 5 1/2" crack from rim on front. A tight 4" line from rim on front.
