Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Stenciled Shield Motif, Stenciled "T.F. REPPERT. / SUCCESSOR TO / J. HAMILTON & Co / GREENSBORO. PENN.", circa 1880, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a stenciled shield surrounding T.F. Reppert maker's stenciling. Freehand stripes to shoulder area and base. Base with additional stenciled "2" flanked by flourishes. Underside incised "X". A very shallow 1" worn spot to rim, possibly in-the-firing. Some light wear to stenciling. A 1 1/8" base chip to left side of jar.
