Fine Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Pheasant-on-Stump Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON, VT", circa 1855, cylindrical jug with semi-squared spout, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a pheasant with turned head and well-detailed body, perched on a tree stump emanating from a shrubbed ground. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with a small in-the-firing contact mark near base on front.
