Twelve-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Stenciled Federal Eagle Decoration, Stenciled "WILLIAMS & REPPERT / GREENSBORO, PA", circa 1885, large-sized, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, the midsection featuring arched Williams & Reppert maker's stenciling bordering a medallion with the bust of a spread-winged Federal eagle. Shoulder elaborately-decorated with freehand stripes, dashes, and vining. Base with freehand "12", flanked by flourishes, underscored by freehand stripes. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Desirable large size. Among the finer examples of stoneware that can be acquired by this pottery. Excellent condition with some light surface wear, a glazed-over scratch to shoulder on reverse, and a 3/4" chip to right handle. H 22 1/2".
