Rare Five-Gallon Double-Handled Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Decoration, Stenciled "C.L. WILLIAMS & CO. / SUCCESSORS / TO / R.T. WILLIAMS, / MANUFACTURERS / OF STONE WARE. / NEW GENEVA, PA.", circa 1890, ovoid jug with tooled spout and two applied handles at the shoulder, featuring unusually elaborate C.L. Williams maker's stenciling. Freehand wavy stripe decoration to shoulder and base. Base with large stenciled "5" flanked by stenciled tulips. Cobalt highlights to upper handle terminals. Desirable form, maker, and stenciled inscription. Significant networks of lines throughout surface. H 19".
