Exceptional Twelve-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Profuse Stenciled Cobalt Decoration, Stenciled "A. CONRAD / NEW GENEVA. / FAYETTE Co. / PA", circa 1875, large-sized, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, featuring Alexander Conrad maker's stenciling flanked by large Featuring boldly-stenciled roses and a highly unusual design of an open-handled urn at the base, this jar is among the most heavily-decorated examples of Alexander Conrad stoneware that we have ever offered. A 2 1/8" rim chip on reverse. A 1 3/8" chip to left handle. Cracks in underside, forming a series of tight spider lines at base, and additionally forming an 11 5/8" crack on left side of jar. Some staining. H 21 1/4".
