Scarce Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar with Stenciled Pears Motif, Stenciled "Greensboro", PA origin, circa 1865, tapered jar with tooled shoulder and rounded "wax sealer" rim, decorated with a stenciled design of two pears hanging from a leafy stem, below the stenciled town name, "Greensboro". Freehand cobalt stripe below rim. Desirable decoration and form. Chips to inner rim for canning lid, which includes a 1 1/4" chipped section. An in-the-firing chip, possibly in-the-firing at base, which includes a short line extending through it. H 6 1/2".
