Fine Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Leaf and Floral Motif, Stamped "F. STETZENMEYER / ROCHESTER, N.Y.", circa 1860, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, slightly-flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a stem bearing three finely-detailed leaves and two flower buds. Slip-trailed "4" to shoulder. Brushed cobalt highlight to maker's mark. A narrow 1 1/2" in-the-firing flake to left handle. A 1 3/8" flake to top of rim. A small in-the-firing iron ping to top of rim. A 2 1/8" in-the-firing surface chip to reverse, above two tiny in-the-firing contact marks. A faint 1 1/2" hairline from rim above right handle. A 5" spider line on reverse, not visible on interior.
