Stoneware Bearded Face Jug, attributed to Brown Pottery, Arden, NC, circa 1930, ovoid jug with applied handle and tall spout, decorated with an applied clay face including bulging eyes with pierced pupils, curved ears, eyebrows with incised details, small nose with carved nostrils, open mouth with china teeth, and an unusual incised beard. Surface covered in a chocolate-brown Albany slip glaze. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, which recently surfaced in Georgia. Chips to spout and one ear. Some light surface wear. H 6 1/2".
