Two Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jars, Stamped "SMITH & DAY / NORWALK", CT origin, circa 1840, both of ovoid form, measuring one gallon and one-and-a-half-gallon, with cobalt highlighted maker's marks and handle terminals. Smaller example with mark variant using a slightly different font, reading, "SMITH. &. DAY / NORWALK". Rim of smaller jar with an in-the-firing iron ping and chip, a base, chip, and iron deposits to surface. Larger jar with rim chips, a small in-the-firing iron ping to reverse, and a 3 1/2" Y-shaped surface line to base on side of jar, not visible on interior.
