Two Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jars, Stamped "SMITH & DAY, / MANUFACTURERS, / NORWALK, CON", circa 1840, both of cylindrical form with tooled shoulder, featuring brushed wavy line decoration and cobalt-highlighted maker's marks. One-gallon jar with rim chips, a faint 2 1/2" line from rim, a minor in-the-firing chip to underside, two in-the-firing pings to front, and some light staining. Two-gallon jar with rim chips, a few minor nicks to inner rim for lid, three base chips, and a thin 1" crack on underside, continuing 3 1/2" up reverse of jar.
