Exceedingly Rare Double Gemel with Incised Floral Decoration, Stamped Five Times, "ORSON C. WARNER", New Haven, CT origin, circa 1830, four wheel-thrown, conjoined jugs of ovoid form with semi-squared spout and ribbed handle, at center, one decorated with an incised floweriing plant motif. Impressed five times with the name, "ORSON C. WARNER": once to handle, twice at base of handle, and twice along juncture of jugs. Interior of jugs coated in an Albany slip glaze. Jugs were previously painted with stylized, geometric designs, which have since been removed. This gemel, of extremely rare quadruple-jug form, was made for, or possibly decorated by, the Connecticut silhouette artist, Orson C. Warner. Warner was born in Chester, CT in 1800 and was active an artist in New England during the late 1820s. Excellent condition with a few firing lines at juncture of jugs, typical of this form, as well as a minor base chip. H 7".
