Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Chicken Pecking Corn Decoration, Stamped "BRADY & RYAN, / ELLENVILLE, N.Y.", circa 1885, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed cobalt design of a chicken pecking kernels of corn from a mound of earth surrounded by shrubs. Some fry to cobalt. A 2 1/4" hairline from rim. A 1" rim chip. A thin 2" crack from rim above left handle. A thin 2" crack from rim on front. A worn area to right side of front, touching one shrub. A small in-the-firing contact mark to front base. A 3 1/2" x 2 1/16" flake to underside at edge of crock, visible when crock is in a seated position as a base chip on front.
