Rare Quart-Sized Stoneware Jug with Alkaline Glaze, Stamped "JM", John Merritt, Crawford County, GA, late 19th or early 20th century, small-sized jug with tapered spout and glossy, mottled-brown alkaline glaze becoming darker as the jug progresses downward. Impressed with "JM" maker's mark on top of handle. Made by Crawford County, GA potter, John Merritt (ca. 1850-1918), or possibly his brother, Jackson N. Merritt (1859-ca. 1935). Exceptional size with appealing glaze. Excellent condition with some in-the-firing residue to underside and a minor chip to side of spout, possibly in-the-firing. H 7 1/4".
