Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "E. FOWLER / BEAVER, PA", circa 1870, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, flattened rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a boldly-brushed design of flowers emanating from a leafy vine. Swag and stripe decorations above, and a stripe with freehand "4" below. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Impressed with Enoch Fowler maker's mark on reverse. Some fry to cobalt. A glazed-over dent to one handle. A 1 5/8" rim chip on reverse. A 3/4" in-the-firing contact mark / surface chip to reverse and a 3/4" glazed-over iron ping to reverse. Some spots of staining.
