Five-Gallon Stoneware Churn, Stenciled "WILLIAMS & REPPERT. / GREENSBORO, PA.", circa 1885, cylindrical form with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and tall collar with semi-squared rim; decorated at the shoulder with freehand stripes and vining, at the midsection with stenciled floral motifs surrouding "WILLIAMS & REPPERT" maker's stenciling, and at the base with a freehand "5", flanked by flourishes and underscored by freehand stripes. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A 1 1/2" loss to rim on side/reverse of jar. A chip and glazed-over dent to one handle. A chip to opposite handle. A tight X-shaped line on underside, which continues onto base of reverse, where it forms a long, sealed T-shaped crack, including two minor nicks along crack line.
