Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar with Stenciled Shield Motif, Stenciled "HAMILTON & JONES / GREENSBORO / PA", circa 1875, tapered jar with rounded "wax sealer" rim, the front decorated with a stenciled shield including stripes and small, four-point stars surrounding Hamilton & Jones maker's stenciling. A tight X-shaped line on underside, continuing onto front, where it forms a T. A tight fork-shaped crack extending from shoulder to base on reverse. A small chip to exterior of rim. A small chip to interior of rim. A few small chips to inner wax sealer rim. H 8".
