Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Pedestal-Based Vine and "1876" Date, Northeastern U.S. origin, possibly Frank B. Norton, Worcester, MA, 1876, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of two vines emanating from a pedestal and creating a vasiform wreath around the Centennial date "1876". Body of crock further decorated with stylized floral motifs in the manner of Frank B. Norton of Worcester, MA, followed by two unusual floral designs. Although this crock appears to be an F.B. Norton product of Worcester, the capacity mark does not match that typically used at this manufactory. A long sealed and filled crack from rim on reverse, continuing onto underside, where it forms a V.
