Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to Smith & Day, Norwalk, CT, circa 1840, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and applied lug handles, decorated with a stylized slip-trailed design of a flower with scrolled vines emanating from its blossom. Shoulder with slip-trailed looping drape motif. Very nice condition. A 1 1/4" hairline from rim on reverse, a short faint line to top of rim on front, two very minor rim nicks, a 1" in-the-firing base chip, and very minor in-the-firing wear to bottom edge.
