Scarce Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "S. JOHNSTON / & SON / BEAVER, PA", circa 1870, tapered jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, the surface decorated with three open-center fuchsias emanating from a leafy stem, applied over slip-coated clay. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Chips to left handle and a small chipped area to right handle. Otherwise excellent condition with a spot of staining on reverse.
