Extremely Rare Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Harvest Jug, attributed to Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1880, beehive form with small and large pouring spouts and arching horizontal handle, decorated on the front and reverse with a brushed flowering plant design. Brushed cobalt highlights to edges of spout. Short cobalt swags brushed around openings of spouts. A very desirable American stoneware form, highly unusual in the work of the Remmey family. Provenance: Collection of Harry Meyer, McDonald, PA. Y-shaped crack on underside. Crack continues 4 1/2" up one side of jug, where it forms a Y, as well as 1" up from base on same side of jug. Small chip to larger spout. Wear to smaller spout. H (to top of handle) 11".
