Two-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird Decoration and New York City Advertising, New York City or New York State origin, circa 1880, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a fan-tailed bird perched on a stylized branch. Impressed above with the cobalt-highlighted advertising, "CALLANAN & KEMP / NO 41 VESEY ST / NEW YORK", A 4" crack on underside, continuing 4 1/2" up reverse. A faint network of surface lines under one handle. Two minor in-the-firing iron pings, one on to top of rim and the other on interior shoulder.
