Very Rare One-Gallon Albany-Slip-Glazed Stoneware Pitcher, Stamped "N. CLARK / ATHENS", NY State origin, circa 1830, ovoid pitcher with tooled shoulder and rim, the spout in the form a large, upward-pointed beak, the surfaced covered in a chocolate-brown Albany slip glaze. Exceptional form, modeled after finer English ceramics of the period. Some restoration to spout. A thin 4" crack from side of rim, descending from a rim chip, which includes restoration to crack on interior of collar. A small, unglazed in-the-firing contact mark to front.
